The Lodging Association has once again teamed up with the Monroe County Tourist Development Council to present the 2017 Hurricane Preparedness Workshop for the Tourism Industry.
The conference is geared toward those in the tourism industry and business community but anyone interested in storm preparedness is welcome.
Jonathan Lord, Deputy Director of Emergency Management for the State of Florida, will be presenting the importance of preparedness and how the state interfaces with Monroe County.
Todd Kimberlain, National Hurricane Specialist will be focusing on new forecast products the NHC will use in 2017 and beyond.
Reports will also be given by Matt Moreland, meteorologist-in-charge at the Key West National Weather Service Office; Martin Senterfitt, Monroe County's emergency management director; Doug Mader Florida Keys Veterinarian, and Andy Newman, public relations director for the Monroe County Tourist Development Council.
There will also be an expert media panel to discuss "Hurricane Preparedness" focus on the readiness of the private sector and government leaders following 10 years of Florida and the Keys not experiencing a hurricane.
Scheduled panelists include Adam Berg, NBC6 meteorologist; Julie Botteri, TDC web editor and social media producer; Cammy Clark, Monroe County public imformation officer; Larry Kahn, Keynoter editor; Rick Lopez, general mamger of Florida Keys Radio Group, LLC; Mandy Miles, Key West Citizen business editor; and Bill South, Key West National Weather Service forecaster who manages the office's social media channels.
Admission is $10 per person and reservations are required.
