In celebration of Tennessee Williams, the Pulitzer Prize-winning literary icon that moved to Key West in 1949 and where he remained a resident for 34 years, the Key West Art & Historical Society presents the “Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration.” The festival consists of a series of arts and cultural events set to take place from February 22 through March 30 at multiple Key West venues.
With a 2020 theme of “The Women of Tennessee Williams,” event highlights include a limited-ticket fundraiser on March 1 at the home of Tennessee Williams Museum founders Dennis Beaver and Bert Whitt, a plein air painting contest, a series of curator tours at the award-winning museum located at 513 Truman Ave., showings of Williams’ classic films at the Tropic Cinema, a poetry and short story competition, performances of ‘Talking Tennessee with Tandy Cronyn & Joel Vig’ at The Studios of Key West, and a party at the museum celebrating Tennessee Williams’ birthday on March 26 which includes contest award presentations, prosecco, and birthday cake.
