In a benefit for the Conch Republic Foster Children’s Fund administered by Wesley House Family Services, Smokin’ Tuna at 4 Charles St. will host the Royal Investiture Party to elect a Royal Family for the Conch Republic on Saturday, April 19th starting at 8 p.m. These funds are raised each year to pay for special items for foster children in Monroe County like, prom dresses, class rings, sports uniforms and equipment, and other items not covered by state dollars. No funds are used for administrative expenses, but go directly to the foster children in need. Anyone can run for a position in the Royal Family -- except for King, held by forever reigning King Mel Fisher –any silly or serious rank or position is acceptable. In years past positions have been held as 'Royal Pistol', 'Duchess of Dingbats', 'Empress Knowsitall', 'Princess of Prevention' and the 'Royal Deck Swabber'. Wesley House and The Honorable Sir Peter Anderson, Secretary General of the Conch Republic, ask the community to rise to the challenge by running as a Royal Family candidate!
